About Multiflora
Multiflora, situated in the south of Johannesburg, is the home to the largest flower auction in Africa, auctioning flowers on behalf of some 600 flower growers. Comprising 50'000 m2 of under roof floor space and 144 personnel Multiflora auctions 300 million flower stems per year. That's an astonishing one million flower stems auctioned per day in just 3 to 4 hours, with between 400 to 900 trolleys passing the 3 auction clocks daily.
80% of all flowers sent to Multiflora are grown within a 300km radius of Johannesburg. The rest come from as far as the Cape, Natal, and northern regions of South Africa, as well as Kenya, Zimbabwe, and other African countries.
Some 400 florists, distributors and wholesalers attend this auction held from Mondays to Saturdays starting at 07:00. These wholesalers then distribute the flowers to almost every city, town and village across the country. Many of these flower wholesalers have retail outlets at the Multiflora Flower Mall selling directly to florists and consumers. Bouquet making and supermarket packing also occurs on the premises.
"The Flower Mall" houses 16 agents who sell flowers and flowering pot plants to the public. Also housed in the mall is Grandiflora, a gift shop bursting with flower and party accessories, and is a haven for the home. There is also the GF Bridal Boutique for those planning a wedding. The Bridal Boutique caters for all your wedding requirements bar the Priest and Groom, and has the largest selection of imported and local wedding gowns available in South Africa.
